JAZZ BANDS

Jazz plays a great roll in Art & Jazz in the Rose Gardens. It’s a community arts festival for Los Angeles. The community has a great time coming together in the outdoor rose gardens to show their art and listen to great music together in the sun. It’s been 9 years and we are getting larger and better.

Eric G Project 
THE ERIC G PROJECT was founded in 2018 by L.A. session drummer Eric Gugisch and is known for performing a musical blend of high energy Latin/Jazz infused with R&B style elements. Eric has performed and recorded for TV shows such as "LA Heat", "Melrose Place" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer". He has appeared live on stage and on recordings with artists like Scott Henderson (guitarist for Chick Corea, Tribal Tech, and The Zawinul Syndicate), bassist and multi instrumentalist Doug Lunn (Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Mark Isham), and Wave Artist NILS. The Eric G Project released their first album entitled "Impressions" in 2019 and has since performed throughout California at venues like The Canyon Club and events such as the L.A. Exposition Park Annual Jazz Festival. In 2021 Eric joined forces with pianist Mahesh Balasooriya (Natalie Cole, Al Jarreau, Arturo Sandoval) and bassist Ric Fierabracci (Blood Sweat & Tears, Billy Cobham, Chick Corea) creating the new outfit for the ERIC G PROJECT.T.

Lawrence Qualls

Music Producer, Musician 

New York Native developed his affinity for Jazz/Hip-Hop music in mid to late 90’s thru early 2000’s playing in his high school jazz ensemble band, being influenced by drummers like Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, the father of jazz drumming Art Blakey, the passion for drums grew stronger as Lawrence studied endlessly to become a recording musician. After being introduced to the music of [“Tribe Called Quest”] & [“JDilla”] Lawrence quickly transitioned to music production working with 3x grammy award winning producer [Eric Hudson] Earning a production credit on Mariah Carey’s single [“Infinity” ] from the [“1 to Infinity”] [Album released 2015] [Epic Records] Since then Lawrence produced & released his first LP entitle [“UNBREAKABLE”]a mixture of modern Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afro-Beat & Funk released Apr 2019. Lawrence’s remarkable versatility and skill allow him to play across genres, Serving as musical director for international reggae superstar [“Jesse Royal”] in 2018 Lawrence truly knows what drives a band having a virtuous ear for great music production, to performing sold out arena tours, plus producing billboard charting records. Eldred Schilder from South Africa

Eldred Schilder grew up amongst several families of musicians, all who have carried the legendary Schilder name. He learned easily from this family DNA to play a Cape form of jazz from the tradi onal goema (klopse) beat heard all around him. As the apartheid government dislocated homes, Eldred's family was thrown out of Harfield Village and into a Cape Flats community of Newfields where he con nued to grow his musical ear.
His musician father, pianist Richard Schilder, performed in various popular bands that emerged in the Cape Flats of Cape Town, who was also a goldsmith, taught young Eldred songs on the piano, and allowed other senior Schilder family members to groom Eldred. In par cular, Uncle Philip, who also played bass and other instruments, mentored Eldred over  me. Eldred launched his own CD entitled 'Tenziah' (combining the names of daughters Tenielle and Keziah) in beginning 2023. The songs, all composed and produced by Eldred, speak to the values, remembrances, and influences of his Schilder dynasty, with special hand-picked local young up- and-coming musician.  Eldred has recorded extensively with the late guitarist Errol Dyers, mul -instrumentalist cousin Hilton Schilder on the la er's CDs, and with other popular bands around Cape Town, including the Manuche band.

My Music.......I love Funk music. It's not at complicated as my other love which is JAZZ, however, the feel and subtleties of funk have captivated me for years.  I'm related to one of Funks founders Sly Stone of Sly and Family stone. In working with him I've learned that there is no chain of command in music period. People who have just started playing music can capture his attention. Though Sly Stone knows music Theory he does not look down upon you if you don't. It's all about the feel, the vibe, the innocents and fealty of the FUNK.
